To maintain the consistency and quality of customer service from our refrigeration and tail lift engineers, the company operates probably the most developed and bespoke training programmes within the commercial vehicle industry.

Transport Refrigeration

MFS is the U.K.’s longest established, and largest, Double Platinum Thermo King sales and service dealer, and provides its engineers with the only Thermo King fully factory supported transport refrigeration training programmes currently available in the UK.

MFS is the only UK Thermo King dealer to have its own in-house Training School. No other UK company offers this level of training and development for Thermo King products, and all our in-house training is fully endorsed by Thermo King.

Responding to the rapidly changing technology and the need for highly trained technicians, MFS provides a mixture of workshop and classroom training, supported by continuous online training and assessment programmes. MFS engineers benefit from bespoke practical training covering every element of transport refrigeration, even including electrical training.

With over 20 different courses, ranging from basic refrigeration through to advanced training for multi-temperature Truck and Trailer systems, together with Vehicle Powered (VP) and Electric units, Marshall Thermo King product training is the envy of the industry, and our competition.

With an emphasis on compliance and statutory examinations, the MFS training programme for ancillary equipment such as tail lift, lifting decks and shutters ensures that all MFS tail lift engineers are competent and impartial, with an extensive knowledge and practical experience of lifting equipment.

They are trained to recognise potential defects that might be a safety risk should the tail lift or lifting decks and shutters continue to be used, when faulty.

Understanding of the latest LOLER regulations/STE examinations form an integral part of all MFS training programmes.

Working at Height

Working at Height is a regular occurrence for MFS engineers so working at height risk awareness, along with awareness to other risk areas, is fundamental to the safety of MFS engineers.

Awareness is key but MFS also believe in reducing and better managing risk, which is why the company looks to continually work alongside suppliers and manufacturers to design, develop and produce systems and bespoke solutions for the range of activities encountered by its engineers at height.

MFS engineers play a crucial role by providing input for potential solutions and support in trials, as well as giving live feedback, so that MFS can adapt and improve any potential solution.

Within work at height, as with other specific risk areas, solutions, equipment and procedures are all ineffective and provide none or very little real benefit unless supported by strong, effective training, which is where the MFS Training Department excel by being able to provide benefits not available to our competitors.

The MFS training team forges a strong link in the chain from idea, design, and trial, through to full introduction of any H&S initiative, but especially working at height, which can have severe consequences, in the event of an incident.

MFS supports these initiatives by providing not only effective training, but flexible training, which can be academy based or delivered at our workshops, or even in the field, depending on specific circumstances.

Within the commercial vehicle sector, there is a growing need to bring new fresh young talent into the industry, mainly through the provision of approved apprenticeship schemes.

At MFS, we already operate a successful Apprenticeship Scheme through the Marshall Centre, and this year, there will be a further intake of apprentices into the company, working with appointed mentors at all our depots around the UK.

Nobody does apprenticeships like MFS does in our industry.

Today, we are already looking for, and developing, the MFS Engineers of 2030.
